Launch of Gillingham Carers Support GroupLaunch event on Thursday 15th June 2pm – 4pm Do you care for a friend or relative and live in Gillingham? If so, then come along to the launch of the Gillingham Carers Support Group. Ex carers welcome. Come and find out what help is available for carers and meet other carers in an informal atmosphere. Three Rivers Partnership is supporting this year’s National Carers Week (June 12-18) by launching the Gillingham Carers Support Group. Carers Week supports the UK’s six million carers – people who look after a sick or disabled friend, partner or relative. Festival Walks 2006 - Updated!This years Gillingham Festival walks: All starting from the Festival Site (town bridge). Sign in from 10am Saturday 1st July - will take in Madjeston and Eccliffe A certificate will be awarded to those who complete all three walks. New Approaches to Affordable Sustainable Housing for Local NeedsAn Open Evening hosted by Three Rivers Partnership Tuesday 16th May, Gillingham Town Hall. All Welcome – No entry charge There is a pressing local need for more affordable homes. And with oil, gas and even water supplies a worry for the future, we also need to make homes more sustainable. This evening is a chance to learn about some possible answers, air your views, and discuss what can be done to meet these needs locally. The three presenters are: DEREK HARDY, North Dorset District Council's Housing Policy Manager will explain NDDC's plans for affordable housing, and the national policy and funding frameworks they have to work within. ANDY LLOYD, Rural Housing Enabler for Dorset Community Action, will describe the benefits of the new affordable housing exception policy for villages and small towns, and will describe his work with the village of Buckland Newton in West Dorset to create affordable eco-houses using prefabricated straw panels. ALAN HEEKS of the Threshold Centre, Gillingham, will explain cohousing, a new form of affordable, sustainable housing, and plans to bring this to this area. The evening is free of charge, and both Three Rivers members and others are welcome.
