The Friends and Neighbours campaign (FAN) aims to celebrate and promote what makes good neighbours. Good neighbourhoods are created by good neighbours and are safer, happier and healthier places for everyone.

Shaftesbury Area Community Partnership and The Three Rivers Partnership (Gillingham area) are proud to be involved in FAN. This campaign is a great example of community partnership working – bringing together partners from across diverse sectors with common goals, for the benefit of those that live and work here.

The two Partnerships, along with Dorset Primary Care Trusts Integrated Care Team, are coordinating FAN as they believe that community partnerships exist to improve the quality of life of all people, particularly the vulnerable, both in the towns and villages that make up our community here in the Blackmore Vale

The Friends and Neighbours (FAN) campaign aims to celebrate and encourage the positive aspects of supportive neighbourhoods and being a good neighbour.

The campaign is being pioneered in the Gillingham and Shaftesbury areas.

A recent survey showed that many people feel isolated and lonely.

However, there are lots of supportive and caring neighbourhoods and good neighbours in our towns, villages and parishes.

We want to encourage and promote the things that make good neighbours and neighbourhoods so that we can all build safer, healthier and happier communities.

The campaign arose from the local health team investigating the needs of older people and has grown into a wide partnership of local organisations who are committed to safer, healthier and happier communities.

Now you have heard what the FAN campaign is about we would like you to help us by nominating a person or group of people who you feel have been good neighbours or are a good neighbourhood.

We want to hear about ordinary everyday kindnesses.

We would like to hear your story about people or groups who have supported you, or people you know, on a regular basis and who you feel make your neighbourhood a safer, healthier and happier place to live.

Tell us what makes them a good neighbour or what makes your neighbourhood a great place to live.

If you have a story that you would like to share with us please complete a nomination form and return it to the address below.

There will be a celebration event of good neighbours in early 2007. We hope that you and the people you nominate will join us.
