Walking is free, fun and a great form of physical activity. The Three Rivers Partnership has a Health Walks Group known as Gillingham Walkers. The group was started with support from North Dorset District Council and the North Dorset Primary Care Trust.
Packs of Walks
The project started with the development of a pack of short self-led walks around Gillingham. All the walks are short as they are designed to fit into a daily routine. They are also ideal for anyone who has recovered or is recovering from a medical condition that could benefit from increased physical activity. Many, many people could benefit from walking more and these packs make it easy. They are available free from the Barn and Peacemarsh Surgeries, pharmacies in Gillingham and the library. There is also a pack of River Walks available in the library.
Social Walking Group
The second part of the project was to start a social walking group. There are lots of benefits of walking as a group including meeting new people, having a good chat, discovering new areas of the town and above all having fun together. There is no charge or joining fee, you just need to complete a simple health questionnaire.
