Three Rivers Unity Lottery

In 2009, faced with the challenge of re-furbishing the leisure and community facilities that are now known as RiversMeet, the Three Rivers Community Partnership launched the Three Rivers Unity Lottery. Since the opening of RiversMeet in August 2010 – what was intended as Stage 1 of that project - the proceeds of the lottery have been shared between the Community Hall - Stage 2 which is yet to be delivered – and a programme of grants for community projects. In that period the Three Rivers Unity Lottery has yielded £40,000 thanks to the continued support of local subscribers. It is time to re-invigorate our fundraising as RiverMeet faces its second decade and as the local authority plans for the population of the area to increase over the next few years. The community will need community groups and organisations with the facilities to match. Three Rivers and RiversMeet need to be there for our Community.

How the money is spent

Over the last 10 years £22k has been set aside for the Community Hall and £10k has been disbursed to a great variety of organisations. Grants have enabled support to be given to the setting up of the following clubs and activities since 2010: the Town Meadow Group, Walkers are Welcome and the annual Walking Festival, BONES Youth Club, the Job Club, the Easy Read Project, Dementia Friendly Gillingham, the Litter Pickers as well as funding for Town gatherings such as the Jubilee Party on the Rec and the Great Get Together on the Meadow. Other beneficiaries include GANG (the Gillingham Action for Nature Group) for their work in Withy Wood, the Swim School at RiversMeet, the facilities at Hardings Park, the re-fitting of the NorDDIS shop and equipment for the Dorset Marshalls to use when ensuring safety in parades and festivals. Neighbouring village projects have been helped in East Stour and Buckhorn Weston. In 2018 funding was provided to 4 toddlers groups. In 2019 Coffee Companions took on loneliness. The most recent new group to be given support are Greener Gillingham who have been assigned £500 of our Unity Lottery funds to deliver their ambitions.
