Three Rivers is a community partnership which simply put means that it aims to bring the communities in and around Gillingham together to plan for the future and to make that plan happen.
Obviously it's a bit more complicated than that but the underlying principle behind it is that local people (whether working or living locally) get to influence what actually happens here.
Gillingham is the largest town in North Dorset and has virtually doubled in size over two decades. The total population of this area is now in excess of 20,000 but public amenities have not kept pace with this growth.
The most high profile project that Three Rivers is currently undertaking is the rebuilding of the leisure centre.
Work started on the new RiversMeet centre on Monday 18th May 2009 and it is anticipated that the new centre will open its doors on Wednesday 31 March 2010, exactly two years after the old one closed.
Keep an eye on these pages as we'll post regular updates on building progress as well as photos.
Our projects are hugely varied as can be seen by our Gillingham Area Action Plan. The Open Spaces group are working with Gillingham Town Council and other bodies to ensure that green spaces in and around the Town have a proper management plan in place for thier maintenance and upkeep
